What is PE foam?
PE foam, also called EPE (expanded polyethylene) foam, is made from polyethylene resin mixed with a foaming agent and extruded into a foam sheet containing millions of tiny sealed air cells. This structure makes PE foam light, soft, resilient, shock-absorbing and waterproof. It is a familiar cushioning material in cartons of electronics, household goods, wooden furniture, ceramics and engineering parts.
Forms of PE foam HQPAK supplies
PE foam is extruded on dedicated lines and then converted into several forms to suit how you pack your goods:
| PE foam form | Characteristics | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| PE foam rolls | Thin to medium foam sheet wound on rolls, custom widths | Wrapping around products, wrapping furniture, lining surfaces against scratches |
| PE foam sheets | Flat sheets cut to size, can be thicker than rolls | Lining carton bases, making dividers, cushioning between layers of goods |
| PE foam bags | Bags made from foam sheet, glued or sealed opening | Holding individual small products: components, glasses, cosmetics, accessories |
| Die-cut PE foam | Die-cut to a drawing into trays, corner pieces and inserts that hug the product | Goods with their own shape that must be held firmly in the carton |
| Laminated PE foam | Several sheets bonded to add thickness; can be laminated with film or aluminium-coated | Heavy goods that need thick cushioning, or an added moisture or heat barrier |
PE foam rolls and sheets
PE foam rolls are the quickest and most flexible choice: operators simply pull, cut and wrap around the product. Thin foam protects the surface from scratches; thicker foam cushions impact. PE foam sheets suit cases where you need repeated liners of the same size, so the packing line works consistently and saves material compared with cutting from a roll yourself.
PE foam bags
PE foam bags protect each product individually and stop items rubbing against each other in the same carton. Bags can be made to the size of the product, with a glued or sealed opening, and used with an outer polybag when you need an added barrier against dust and moisture.
Die-cut PE foam cut to your drawing
For machinery, equipment, ceramics or components with a special shape, foam cut to the outline of the product keeps goods from shifting in the carton. HQPAK accepts technical drawings, design files or real product samples to make corner pieces, trays and end inserts, then sends a sample so you can test the packing before the production run.
Advantages of PE foam
- Light: it does not add significant weight to a parcel or to the freight charge.
- Resilient and shock-absorbing: it absorbs force from drops and bumps and returns to shape after being compressed.
- Scratch-resistant and moisture-resistant: the soft surface does not scratch paint or glass, and the closed cells do not absorb water.
- Dust-free, no shedding beads: cleaner than bead foam, a good fit for electronics and garments.
- Easy to process: it can be cut, die-cut, glued, bag-sealed and laminated as needed.
- Reusable: it can be used again for internal circulation of goods between workshops and warehouses.
Choosing PE foam thickness and density
PE foam thickness commonly runs from about 0.5 mm to several tens of millimetres. As a general rule, the heavier and more fragile the goods and the further they travel, the thicker the foam layer you need, or you should move to die-cut inserts. A thin 0.5-1 mm layer mainly prevents scratches; a few millimetres up to over ten millimetres cushions impact. Density (kg/m³) decides how firm the foam is: high density gives a firmer piece that carries more load; low density is softer, gentler and lighter. Do not over-specify thickness for every product. Send the weight, dimensions and how the carton is packed, and HQPAK will advise a level that is enough without waste.
PE foam by industry
Electronics and components
PE foam bags, foam sheets lining trays, and die-cut inserts for circuit boards and devices; anti-static foam on request.
Export goods: household goods, ceramics, glass
Foam rolls wrapped around products, foam bags for glasses and tableware; corner pieces and inserts for fragile goods travelling long distances by container.
FMCG, cosmetics, F&B
Foam bags and sheets that cushion glass bottles and jars, gift sets and cosmetic cartons so goods do not knock together when shipped through distribution channels and e-commerce.
Furniture and wooden goods
PE foam rolls wrapped around painted surfaces and corner protectors for the edges and corners of tables, chairs and cabinets during loading and transport.
Engineering and automotive parts
Die-cut foam and laminated foam to hold heavy parts in place; foam sheets to separate layers of parts in a carton.
Garments and footwear for export
Thin foam sheets to line and hold the shape of products and protect accessories; order together with polybags and paper boxes to complete the packing set. For agricultural produce and fruit, foam netting and liner foam are also used to reduce bruising in transit.
Ordering PE foam in 5 steps

Frequently asked questions
What is PE foam and how is it different from white EPS foam?
PE foam (EPE, expanded polyethylene) is a foam material made from polyethylene with a closed-cell structure. It is soft, resilient, shock-absorbing and moisture-resistant. White EPS foam is made of rigid beads: light but brittle, it crumbles easily and sheds beads. PE foam is more flexible, dust-free, withstands repeated impacts and can be reused, which makes it suitable for wrapping, lining and cushioning goods.
What thicknesses of PE foam are available?
PE foam rolls and sheets typically range from about 0.5 mm to several tens of millimetres thick. When more thickness is needed, sheets are laminated in several layers. Choose the thickness according to the weight and fragility of the goods and the shipping distance; HQPAK advises when you send your product information.
Can HQPAK cut PE foam to my size and drawing?
Yes. HQPAK cuts PE foam sheets and rolls to the width and length you need, and die-cuts shaped foam to your drawing or a real product sample, for cushioning inserts, corner pieces and trays. You can send a technical drawing, a design file or a sample of the goods and our technical team will work out a solution.
What are PE foam bags used for?
PE foam bags hold and wrap individual products such as electronic components, small household goods, glasses, cosmetics and accessories, protecting against scratches and reducing impact in transit. Bags can have a glued or sealed opening, in a size to fit the product.
Is anti-static PE foam available for electronic components?
Yes. HQPAK supplies anti-static PE foam on request for components, circuit boards and electronic equipment. When ordering, state your anti-static requirement and your own test criteria so we can advise the right material.
What does the cost of PE foam depend on?
The cost depends on the product form (roll, sheet, bag or die-cut), thickness, density, width and length, colour, requirements for laminating layers, films or anti-static properties, the amount of cutting and die-cutting, and quantity. Send your specifications to HQPAK and we will return a quotation within 24 hours of receiving full specifications.
Where does HQPAK deliver PE foam?
HQPAK delivers PE foam to customers across Vietnam and supports export orders to international markets, through the carrier or logistics company you nominate. It can be delivered together with labels, bags and boxes so your packing materials arrive in step.
